![]() ![]() ![]() Reading a story that takes us into the skin of a character makes us feel like that character is more than that. We’re happy to read that, I guess, because we know that alternative thorny ending, and we wouldn’t want to wish it upon anyone, not even a fictional character. Most novels hinge around getting that rosy, all-is-well, happy ending that life, in that situation, might not get. It usually never is, but sometimes, if things seem to be going well, then it would feel like it is. Life… life isn’t always only roses without the thorns. ![]() She is also a member of the President’s Committee for the Arts and Humanities, appointed by Barack Obama. Here’s my take: So we know we’re not alone. Why is storytelling so important for all of us? I think all of that blended well with writing fiction but the defining moment was a slow progression rather than an epiphany. So, a long way of saying that for me writing was always simmering on the backburner but I kept getting distracted by other shiny objects. Later, I went back to school and got an MFA degree in creative writing. ![]() Then I went on to major in English in college but then I ended up in another band, this time in Los Angeles. Anyway, at some point I started writing short stories. I definitely loved books the whole time (I was really into sci-fi in middle school and then later branched out). Then it was music and I learned to play guitar (later, I played in bands and fronted some as the singer-songwriter). Then I wanted to make movies and used to make these claymation deals that took days to create (projects lost to the world, but I suspect the world will get on fine without them). Instead, I was kind of a creative dabbler. ![]() Was there a defining moment during your youth when you realized you wanted to be a writer? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Purpose Driven® Life has transformed millions of lives around the world.
